Percussion workshop at Youth Assembly
Making music with dozens of people, even if you do not play in an orchestra or sing choir, is possible for anyone. At Menno's Global Youth Assembly you will be given the opportunity to experience this, as we will form a musical team with all participants, under the musical guidance of percussionist Chris Colleye. He will let us experience how we can listen to each other despite our differences in language, because music allows to communicate across cultural and lingual borders. With simple percussion instruments and our body, we ensure that everyone is swinging after an hour. Will you be participating?
Chris Colleye is a percussionist. He taught at the conservatory in Alkmaar and Haarlem for over twenty years. He played along with many theater and television productions and worked with artists at home and abroad. For the organization Musicians Without Borders he traveled to former conflict areas to give training and workshops to youth workers and musicians.
Musicians Without Borders uses the power of music to bridge divides, connect communities, and heal the wounds of war. Using music as a tool to build connections, foster empathy and shape communities, Musicians Without Borders have addressed the needs of societies divided and affected by conflict.
